System notes are created automatically on a matter-specific basis when certain actions are performed, such as creating/editing tasks or changing the assignee of a particular matter. You can use system notes as a way of auditing work done within a matter.
NOTE: Not all actions result in a corresponding system note being created.
To access system notes for a matter:
- Edit the matter. See Editing a Matter for help.
- Hover over the File Notes icon and choose System Notes. A list of system notes appears.
- Review the information, including the time the change was made (in the Note Time column), what the action was (in the File Note column), and who performed the action (in the Entered By column).
- Optionally, click the Filter drop-down list and choose Show Available Filters to filter the list based on specific criteria, like date, time, tags, and so forth.
TIP: An admin can adjust who has permission to view system notes by going to Admin > Users & permissions > System roles > Data permissions. Select the System Role you want to grant permission to, and choose Action File Notes from the System Object drop-down list. Enable or disable the options in this list as needed.
