The Actionstep API allows software developers to create a wide variety of apps (mobile, web, tablet, embedded, desktop) using Actionstep as the back-end database.
Overview
Actionstep is a comprehensive business management platform with built-in data structures and business models for features like workflow, document management, contacts, calendaring, time sheets, billing, trust accounting, and general ledger. This lets you focus on building a stunning front-end application without having to worry about the complexities of the business back end.
Using Actionstep as your back-end database also lets you create custom back-end workflows and data structures to support your front-end application. For example, to create a mobile app for salespeople, you could define a companion sales pipeline workflow (initial inquiry > qualified prospect > engaged > contract) with custom data fields (contract amount, products of interest, etc.) and operate on these fields from your front-end app. You'll also have access to all of Actionstep's standard business functions like tasks, steps, CRM, quotes, invoices, etc.
You communicate with the API using standard HTTP requests and responses (GET, POST, etc.). You can use any programming language on your end (JavaScript, C#, PHP, etc.) as most have built-in libraries for HTTP communication.

Getting Started with the Actionstep API
If you're interested in using the Actionstep API, here's how to get started:
- If you're ready to request access, please fill out the application form.
- If you have questions or need more information before applying, please reach out to Actionstep Support .
- We have a review process to handle API access requests. We aim to respond to general requests within 7-14 business days. Requests for reporting endpoints or single organization/internal use will typically receive a response within three business days.
- If your request is approved, our Global Support Team will set up a sandbox environment for you. This will include a copy of your live Actionstep system (if applicable) for testing, an admin login to access the sandbox system, and API Credentials (API Access Key and Client Secret) for authentication.
Deploying to Production
Once you have completed your project, please reach out to Actionstep Support. Your integration will be reviewed by our API team before it can go live. Once the review is complete, we will issue you a set of production API credentials. You will then need to deploy your application to your own production environment and use the production API credentials to point to your live Actionstep system.
API Support
Once your API environment has been established, all API-related support inquiries can be submitted by creating a support ticket here.
