Editing Contact Information While Viewing a Matter

In this article:

Each contact record in Actionstep includes the standard fields for that participant type, but there may also be custom data fields for the specific participant type. You can update both types of fields while editing a matter.

NOTE:  Admins can set up custom participant data fields by going to Admin > Additional settings > Participant types and then editing the participant type's custom data fields. See Adding Custom Data Fields to a Participant Type (Admin) for complete instructions.

Update the Actual Contact Record Via the Matter

You can edit a contact's record while viewing the matter the contact is associated with. This opens the actual contact record where you can make your changes.

To do this:

  1. In Actionstep Practice Management, view the matter. (See Editing a Matter for help.)
  2. Either on the matter's Home page or Parties page, click the name of the participant whose details you want to edit. The contact record is opened.
  3. Click Edit. The Editing Contact page appears.
  4. Make any changes you need and click Save when you are finished.

Updating a Contact's Custom Data

Sometimes client information is saved as custom participant data for a specific matter. When you update this information, it will be updated for the matter only—changes will not be saved to the contact record.

To do this:

  1. In Practice Management, view the matter. (See Editing a Matter for help.)
  2. Click the Home menu icon to view the matter overview page.
  3. In the Parties (detailed) panel, hover over the name of the party you want to edit and select Edit Data.
    The Additional Data page appears.
  4. Make any changes you need and click Save when you are finished.
